In the years following the overthrow of the violent and expansionist Second Committee, the more egalitarian and communal Union (the Third Committee) govern the many worlds of Humanity from their place of power on Cradle. With their use of Blink Gates, the Omninet, and the currency known as Manna, Union tries to bring peace and stability to the far flung planets that humans managed to find themselves on. One of these planets is SL 50121, but the locals just call it Socrates. The planet itself is a mostly barren rock floating through the void of space, but the largely successful city of New Prospero has garnered the attention of Union representatives, and they have started to set up Union standard infrastructure within this burgeoning metropolis. However, this has also caught the attention of the major corporate entities within the galaxy. IPS-N, Smith-Shimano Corp, Harrison Armory, and GMS are all racing to secure the planet’s resources and population for their own benefit (and probably to the detriment of the people who actually live there). This, of course, doesn’t mention the problems that the planet has on its own: extreme heat, little surface water, wild swings in weather conditions, pirates that see a fresh new world ripe for the picking, and the struggle of a post scarcity society trying to impose its will on a group of very independent first and second generation settlers. Simply put, the perfect place for someone to rise to greatness within. Also, there are giant robots with big guns, so go shoot those and have a good time.
